Two years ago, coupsters kicked in our doors, filed a lawsuit and forced a referendum, all in an attempt to end democracy at Pacifica and give themselves the right to sell WBAI. We defeated them, winning the referendum by a 2-to-1 margin. That should have been the end, but the same people with their same corporate-inspired intentions are trying to kill democracy at Pacifica again with a second referendum.
This time adopting the name “New Day Pacifica,” these same folks whom we already have defeated are trying for a second time to install themselves as Pacifica’s overlords. Enough! We the undersigned oppose the proposed bylaws changes that would install the coupsters as an unaccountable management for three years, an amount of time in which the entire character of Pacifica could be altered. The changes would reduce each station’s representatives on the National Board from four to one and strip the local station boards of power. Power would be centralized in a few hands, enabling the stifling of progressives, Indigenous peoples, People of Color and other marginalized communities.
We oppose this power grab designed to end democracy at Pacifica and urge defeat of the proposed bylaws changes.
